YLI Silk thread is a high quality, very fine, wonderfully lustrous, Japanese pure silk thread that is wonderful for hand and machine quilting, appliqué, heirloom quilting, lace making and fine embroidery.

This thread is a popular choice for hand appliqué because the thread sinks between the fibres of woven cottons. Exact colour matching is not essential because the thread hardly shows at all. 

YLI Silk is a very fine (100-weight) thread that is also strong enough to be safe to use in a sewing machine. For best results when sewing by machine, we recommend using a Schmetz Microtex 60 needle. For hand quilting and appliqué, we recommend a John James Sharps needle, size 12.
