How to book your quilt in

Reserving your longarm quilting week is simple. Your reservation secures your place on our longarm frame, then we guide you through the details when your quilt comes in.

1

Reserve your week

Choose an available week on our reservation page and pay the £25 frame reservation fee.

2

Bring or send your quilt

Your quilt top, backing and wadding need to reach us before your reserved quilting week.

3

Check in your quilt

We measure your quilt and talk through thread colour, quilting design and any special requirements. If you bring your quilt in yourself, this is usually done at the same time.

4

We quilt it for you

Your quilt is professionally loaded onto our longarm quilting frame and quilted the way you have chosen. We can keep you updated with photos or messages as your quilt progresses.

5

Collect or arrange return

We will contact you when your quilt is ready to collect, or arrange return delivery if needed.

Enjoy your finished quilt

Your quilt will be ready for binding, gifting, displaying, snuggling under, or finally ticking off the “to finish” list.

A note about thread at checkout

You do not need to add “matching thread” at checkout when booking your longarm reservation. Quilting thread is included in the longarm quilting price and we will discuss thread colour with you when you bring your quilt top in. The matching thread option is intended for fabric orders.

Longarm quilting options & guide prices

You do not need to decide exactly what type of quilting you want before reserving your week. This section is here to show you the options we offer and how our pricing works. When you bring your quilt in, we will talk through what would suit your quilt, measure everything properly, and confirm the cost with you.

1.5p per square inch

Basting

A useful option if you would like your quilt layers basted together ready for you to quilt yourself.

2.5p–3.5p per square inch

Edge-to-edge quilting

A digitised quilting pattern that runs from one edge to the other of the quilt. The price depends on quilting density, with medium density being our most common option at 3p per square inch.

4p per square inch

Custom digitised quilting

Digitised quilting patterns placed and sized to work with the blocks or layout of your quilt, rather than simply running across the whole quilt.

5p per square inch

Detailed custom digitised quilting

More detailed digitised quilting, or a combination of custom digitised quilting with ruler work.

6p per square inch

Mostly custom ruler work

Predominantly custom ruler work, with a smaller amount of custom digitised quilting where it suits the quilt.

7p per square inch

All custom ruler work

Fully custom ruler work across the quilt, planned around the design, structure and finish you would like.

Usually 8p–10p per square inch

All custom hand guided by Meg

Our most individual quilting option, guided by Meg by hand and planned around the quilt itself. Because this depends on the complexity and detail of the quilting, the final price is confirmed during consultation.

Minimum quilting charge

Our minimum quilting charge is £80. This is because even smaller quilts still need time to be loaded, tensioned, checked and set up carefully on the longarm frame.

How pricing works

Longarm quilting is priced by the square inch. This means the final cost depends on the size of your quilt and the type of quilting you choose.

The basic formula

Quilt width × quilt length × price per square inch

Once we know the size of your quilt and the quilting style you would like, we can calculate the quilting cost clearly.

Your reservation fee

The £25 frame reservation fee secures your quilting week and is deducted from your final quilting cost.

Our minimum quilting charge is £80.

Example

A quilt measuring 60" × 70" = 4,200 square inches.

If quilted at 2.5p per square inch, the quilting cost would be £105. Your £25 reservation fee would then be deducted from the final quilting cost.

Need backing or wadding?

You are welcome to supply your own backing and wadding, or purchase suitable backing fabric and wadding from us. If you are unsure what you need, we can help you choose.

Preparing your quilt

A little preparation helps us load your quilt smoothly and achieve the best possible finish. Here are the main things to check before bringing or sending your quilt to us.

If you are buying wadding from us

You do not need to prepare the wadding in advance. We will cut it from the bolt and load it onto the frame when we quilt your quilt.

If you are buying backing from us

Please choose and purchase your backing fabric before your quilt comes in, so you can take it home and press it. Backing fabric that needs pressing may incur an ironing charge.

Backing size

Your backing should be at least 10 inches wider and 10 inches longer than your quilt top.

Do not baste your quilt

Please keep the quilt top, backing and wadding separate. We load the layers separately onto the longarm frame.

Press and fold lightly

Please press your quilt top and backing, fold them lightly, and keep each layer separate.

Use suitable wadding

Only needle-punched wadding should be used. If you are supplying your own wadding, please make sure it is large enough for your quilt.

Tell us about any concerns

Please let us know at check-in if there is any extra fullness, stretching, flaws, delicate fabric, or anything else you would like us to be aware of.

Your quilt is in experienced hands

Your quilt will be handled by Meg Leach, our award-winning machine quilter.

Experienced quilting knowledge

Meg has been teaching and writing about machine quilting for over 35 years, helping quilters understand technique, design and finish.

Award-winning work

Meg has won multiple awards for her own quilting work, including at Festival of Quilts, Quilts UK and The European Quilt Championships.

Every quilt is handled with care and respect, whether it is your first quilt, a special gift, or a project you have spent years preparing.

How much larger does my backing need to be?

Your backing should be at least 10 inches wider and 10 inches longer than your quilt top.

Should I baste my quilt before bringing it in?

No. Please do not baste your quilt. We load the quilt top, wadding and backing separately onto the longarm frame.
