Bondaweb
By Vilene
This is the well-known webbed fabric adhesive made by the Vilene Company. They give it several names on the box. Here in the UK it is commonly known as 'Bondaweb'. In other countries it is sometimes referred to as 'Vliesofix' or 'Wunder under'. These are all the same product - all three names are on the box. Here at New Threads Quilt Shop we usually refer to it as Bondaweb.
Bondaweb is a light weight, paper-backed, webbed fabric adhesive that is idea for bonding two pieces of fabric together, for example in raw edge applique, as an alternative to pinning or basting. To use it:
1 - Gently iron your Bondaweb to the wrong side of your applique fabric. Iron with the paper side of the Bondaweb uppermost so that the iron doesn't touch the web fusible. This bonds the wrong side of your applique fabric to the Bondaweb so you have a layer of fabric, a layer of glue on top of that, and a layer of paper on top of the glue to protect the glue.
2 - Now draw (in mirror image) the shape you require onto the paper backing of the Bondaweb.
3 - Cut the shape out, using a pair of sharp pointed scissors.
4 - Peel the paper backing off the prepared shape. This exposes the glue that is on the wrong side of your applique fabric.
5 - Position the applique shape glue-side down onto your background fabric, then press lightly into place. This bonds your applique fabric to your background fabric. You may wish to stitch decoratively around the edge, using a hand or machine blanket stitch or other decorative stitch.
Bondaweb can be laundered or dry cleaned.
Bondaweb is 45cm wide. This listing is for a 30m box of Bondaweb - i.e. an order of one quantity will give you a rolled sheet that measures 45cm wide x 30m long. This price gives you a saving of 25% compared to buying Bondaweb loose by the metre. Your purchase will be delivered by courier.
