This beautiful selection of 50 weight Aurifil thread colours was chosen by Sarah Vedeler to coordinate with her 'Sparkle' embroidered quilt project. Sarah is a long time fan of using AURIfil cotton Mako for quilting and piecing. She started to use it for embroidery when she started working with silk fabric – and fell in love! Favouring the 50 wt Cotton Mako, Sarah loves the interplay of colors that is possible between the cotton thread and silk fabric. Important: Please note that two of the spools that appear turquoise on the right of the main Aurifil image of this product are actually a little bit more JADE in real life. The green tones have not transferred well in the digital image.
Please also note that although Aurifil call this collection 'Sparkle' the threads are pure cotton and NOT sparkly or metallic.
Each 30g spool of Aurifil 50 has approximately 1422 yards (1300m) of thread on it, so it will last a long time.
Aurifil threads are manufactured in Italy. The Aurifil cotton threads are reknowned worldwide for their beautiful quality. They are very smooth to use, strong and reliable, made from extra long staple cotton fibres of the highest quality. Aurifil cotton threads are known for for their lustre, largely due to the detailed mercerisation process during manufacturing. Aurifil thread is also known for its very low lint levels, making it one of the (if not THE) premium threads available here in the UK.
We stock Aurifil in four weights -- Mako 50 is the finest of the Aurifil cotton threads and is classed as a 50/2 thread. Aurifil thread normally sells for £7.60 per spool, but here as a special purchase in a boxed set of 12, each spool works out to just £6.20 each, a savings of £1.40 per spool. Great value for money!
