Aurifil Mako 50 Thread - 12 spools of Mako 50 weight thread in a handy keepsafe box
This beautiful selection of 50 weight Aurifil thread colours was chosen by fabric designer, author and lecturer Pat Sloan. These beautiful 50 weight Aurifil threads are ideal for piecing, applique and fine detailed quilting. Each 30g spool of Aurifil 50 has approximately 1422 yards of thread on it, so it will last a long time.
Aurifil threads are manufactured in Italy. The Aurifil cotton threads are reknowned worldwide for their beautiful quality. They are very smooth to use, strong and reliable, made from extra long staple cotton fibres of the highest quality. Aurifil cotton threads are known for for their lustre, largely due to the detailed mercerisation process during manufacturing. Aurifil thread is also known for its very low lint levels, making it one of the (if not THE) premium threads available here in the UK.
We stock Aurifil in four weights -- Mako 50 is the finest of the Aurifil cotton threads and is classed as a 50/2 thread. We also stock Mako 40 (for machine quilting, general use), Mako 28 (hand quilting, decorative embroidery, topstitch) and Mako 12 (Sashiko, hand embroidery) -- see our other Aurifil listings. Mako 50 is a beautiful lightweight thread which is ideal for applique, patchwork piecing, bobbin thread, lacemaking, dressmaking and detailed quilting.
Here is what Aurifil says about Pat Sloan's Aurifil 50 collection: "Pat Sloan has pulled her most used appliqué thread colors into this “Basic 12 colours for Machine Quilting and Appliqué” kit. For both hand and machine appliqué Pat uses 50 wt thread. Because 50 wt is thin, a single strand of color blends beautifully across many shades of fabric. Pat’s starter box of colors is perfect to begin your collection of appliqué threads."
Aurifil thread normally sells for £7.60 per spool, but here as a special purchase in a boxed set of 12, each spool works out to just £6.20 each, a savings of £1.40 per spool. Great value for money! Makes a wonderful quilter's gift, either for a friend or for yourself. Remember: good quality thread is a joy to work with!
