Aurifil 40 is such a versatile thread it makes sense to purchase it on king cones. King cones are very economical, equivalent to 4.7 of the large (100m) spools for less than four times the cost. Also:

• You won't run out of thread for a long time
• You can wind 10 bobbins at a time with this thread, then stack them ready for use -- it saves time when bobbins run out
• Aurifil 40 thread is suitable for piecing, quilting and general bobbin use, so you'll reach for it all the time when making patchwork quilts
• King cones are perfect for longarm quilting machines
• King cones can be used easily with a cone holder on domestic sewing machines, or simply put the cone in a jam jar and run the thread up through your machine's normal threading mechanisms
