Aurifil Cotton Mako 28 thread is an extra long staple cotton thread, now available here in the UK. Classed as a 28/2 (28 weight, 2 ply) thread, Aurifil 28 is made from the finest Egyptian long staple cotton and is mercerised for a wonderful sheen. Aurifil 28 is very popular with hand quilters because of its beautiful silk-like finish and even, soft texture. Machine quilters, too, find that this thread runs through the tension discs beautifully and there is just enough body in the thread to add beautiful accent to a surface design.
Aurifil 28 is ideal for hand quilting, machine quilting, top stitch, decorative applique and many general sewing uses. Like all Aurifil cottons, Aurifil 28 is a very smooth thread with very little lint and virtually no slub. It behaves extremely well through sewing machines and is easy to work with by hand. The colour is both light (UV) and wash fast. For machine quilting, we recommend a Quilting 90 needle. For hand quilting we recommend a John James size 10 Big Eye Quilting needle.
28 weight Aurifil thread is supplied on a grey spool. There are 30g of thread on the spool which is approximately equal to 750m of thread.
